Africa Demands a Fair Digital Future: Kanga Rasi Calls for Inclusive Economies at C20 Webinar.

By Noko Mashilo

Kanga Rasi, head of region for Africa at the Brave Movement, stood at the heart of an important conversation during the socialisation of the policy brief on Digital and Inclusive Economies webinar, led by C20 South Africa Sherpa, Mabalane Mfundisi. The webinar was facilitated by Thando Lukuko of Mansa Advisory, with Zwakele Mbanjwa from Big Africa serving as co-facilitator.

In a moment where the global community is grappling with widening digital divides, Rasi’s presence reflected the urgency of ensuring that Africa’s voices shape solutions for a fairer digital future.

Rasi told Vula Vala that the policy brief being discussed was not just another technical document. “It was a collective response from global civil society to one of the defining challenges of our time. It carried the weight of lived realities and frontline experiences, offering not a wish list but a roadmap of actionable, financeable policies designed to:

  • Connect the Unconnectedthrough innovative financing models.
  • Empower the Marginalised by advancing digital literacy and skills.
  • Govern Technology Ethically by centering human rights and public participation in AI and data governance.
  • Hold Power Accountable by demanding responsibility from tech corporations across their supply chains,” explained Rasi whose contribution embodied Africa’s determination to be both a participant and a driver in shaping inclusive digital economies.

She further said we are living through a pivotal moment in history. “The digital revolution is no longer a distant prospect, it is here, reshaping our economies, transforming our societies, and touching every aspect of our lives. The real question before us is not if this transformation is happening, but how it unfolds and, most importantly, for whom.

As the leading forum for international economic cooperation, the G20 bears a profound responsibility to steer this digital transformation toward a future where it serves as the greatest engine of inclusive growth humanity has ever known, rather than the sharpest driver of inequality,” said Rasi.

Rasi said they stand at a crossroads. “Digital technology can unlock opportunity, connecting the unconnected and empowering the marginalised.
